“Doctor Salas is the very best at what she does! Her office is incredibly beautiful and peaceful to include massage rooms and a sauna. She has a very friendly expert staff. On my first appointment I got a chemical face peel, microdermabrasion, and a full body massage – such a relaxing experience! Doctor Salas’ assistant Miriam is the best massage therapist I’ve ever been to. My second visit I received an RF frequency non-surgical facelift, intense pulsed light treatment, and CO2 laser resurfacing with a stem-cell cream treatment afterward. My face has never looked better! I also had Dr. Salas surgically remove a skin growth – I felt no pain during the procedure, and it left no scar! Apparently Dr. Salas travels around the world keeping herself up-to-date with the latest in dermatology, hair, and beauty. I really enjoyed listening to her radio show! A friend of mine had Botox done and she said that every other place she had Botox done that it hurt but with Dr. Salas there was no pain afterward!”
A Dean, Riverside, CA 2015
“After living my entire life in southern California and actively participating in outdoor sports, I have suffered skin damage with actinic keratosis. A friend of mine recommended that I consult with Dr. Sara Salas. She performed a series of procedures, fractional radio-frequency, IPL and fractional C02, to get the best results possible. I am now 6 weeks post-procedure with GREATLY improved skin texture and softness. Dr. Salas took her time to explain the procedures and the results that I could expect. It was a very positive experience and I HIGHLY recommend her!”
Pat D, Newport Beach, CA, 2015
“A great experience. Dr. Salas is a perfectionist. I struggle with rosacea and have kept it under control with annual IPL treatments. Dr. Salas suggested combining IPL with fractionated radio frequency and fractionated CO2. The results were fabulous! I was not in a position to take time off work. Dr. Salas listened and I received a medium treatment with no down time. I couldn’t be happier with how my skin looks and feels! I highly recommend Dr. Salas’ services!”

Tijuana, Baja California (March 30, 2015) – Baja MediSpa, founded by Dr. Sara Lea Salas, Board Certified Dermatologist, would like to announce the opening of its new state-of-the-art facility that offers an array of modern medical skin treatments, including fractional Co2 Laser Resurfacing, to help people achieve a more youthful look. This facility is located at Calle Antonio Caso 2055, Suite 306, Zona Rio, CP 22010, Tijuana, B.C.
Co2 laser resurfacing is considered as one of the best dermatological breakthroughs of the decade. It uses a new method in applying traditional carbon dioxide lasers, which have been long known as a wrinkle remover. It is non-invasive, so discomfort is kept to a minimum, even without the need for anesthetics. The patient gets the long-lasting benefit of laser resurfacing sans the harsh side effects. It’s usually completed within one or two sessions, depending on the skin’s condition.
Over time, natural aging, pollution, stress, sun exposure, etc. destroys the collagen—the protein that connective tissues need to keep the skin wrinkle-free, giving it a youthful appearance. Co2 laser resurfacing uses concentrated pulsating beams of energy light that vaporize dead or blemished skin cells on the surface. In addition, these beams bore tiny holes in the skin, which stimulates the body’s natural collagen production to work fast in renewing the skin cells during recovery.
Aside from offering laser Co2 in Tijuana, Baja MediSpa also provides other medical skin treatment options such as Radio Frequency and Microdermabrasion Crystal-Based Skin Rejuvenation, IPL, various laser treatments, Botox, fillers, and lipofreeze, a non-invasive treatment for fat removal. They are open Monday to Friday, from 8:30AM to 5:00PM, and on Saturdays by appointment. Dr. Salas is also available for virtual consultations. Simply call 1-855-999-8123 & 619-870-1317 (US /Canada) or 664-684-9651 (Mexico).

According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), acne vulgaris (otherwise simply known as acne) is the most common skin disease among Americans, especially teens. While a proper skin care regimen can help clear up the skin in cases of mild acne (along with help from topical products), severe cases may need more potent assistance. These days, a growing number of acne suffers turn to IPL or intense pulsed light treatments.
To understand how IPL treats acne, it helps to know how acne occurs in the first place. Special glands in the skin’s follicles, known as sebaceous glands, produce an oily substance called sebum, which is responsible for preventing the skin from drying out. As more sebum is produced, every pore’s lining renews itself and sheds off dead skin cells. Dead skin cells then combine with the excess sebum to create what is called a plug. Bacteria that thrive on the skin can infect clogged pores, leading to the characteristic red and sore growth.
This is where IPL comes in. Also known as photodynamic therapy (PDT), IPL works by directing pulses of light into the epidermis or the skin’s upper layer. The light pulses are either absorbed by the hemoglobin in the blood and converted to heat (which then destroys the vessels that feed the sebaceous glands, halting sebum production), or targeted at specific acne-causing bacteria. If administered properly, IPL may also address acne scars.
Acne scarring typically creates uneven skin coloration in the form of redness or dark spots. IPL is delivered in varying intensities, which can be adjusted to target pigment cells and even out discoloration. As a result, scar visibility is reduced and skin texture appears more uniform. Take note, though, that IPL does not smooth out raised scars or fill out indented ones.
If you’ve suffered from acne for far too long, and various treatments have failed, you may want to talk to a board-certified dermatologist about how IPL can help your condition. Experience the skin-clearing benefits of intense pulsed light at Tijuana spas like the Baja Medi Spa, and see your unsightly zits meet their end once and for all.

As temperatures rise, lots of people look forward to soaking up the sun at a nearby beach. In preparation for summer, many opt for non-invasive laser hair removal to eliminate unwanted body hair and flaunt smooth, flawless skin.
Many patients in Southern California find that they can get affordable yet top-notch laser hair removal and other cosmetic procedures right across the Mexican border. At Tijuana laser hair removal centers like Baja Medi Spa, for instance, highly skilled staff are trained to perform safe and non-invasive laser skin procedures in a comfortable environment, with treatment durations depending on the type of hair and the target area. These practitioners also provide tips on proper post-treatment skin care to prevent complications and ensure optimal results.
How Laser Hair Removal Works
Dark objects absorb light, and this is the main principle behind laser hair removal. A specific wavelength of light is matched with precise pulse durations and directed at hair follicles. Follicles contain a dark pigment called melanin that absorbs the concentrated laser beams. This technique destroys hair in the target areas without affecting surrounding tissue and prevents further regrowth for up to a few months. Unlike traditional and painstaking depilatory procedures, laser hair removal treats the underarms, legs, and other areas in mere minutes.
Factors to Consider
Patients experience varying degrees of success from laser hair removal. People with lighter skin tones and dark hair colors can typically expect optimal results from laser hair removal as laser is absorbed faster by the hair follicles. Those with darker skin tones, on the other hand, often need to undergo more sessions before they can see results.
What to Expect
Very few patients notice dramatic hair reduction after a single laser session. For most people, an average of 4-6 sessions carried out over several months would be necessary for visible and lasting results. At any rate, laser is capable of removing hair follicles much faster than electrolysis, which can take years to produce the desired effects.
For your safety and peace of mind, be sure to visit a facility that is supervised by a board certified dermatologist such as Dr. Sara Lea Salas of Baja Medi Spa.

Botulinum toxin (BTX), more popularly known as Botox, is a neurotoxic protein with multiple medical, cosmetic, and research applications. The two main commercially manufactured variants of Botox are types A and B. Botox in Mexico, a leading destination for low-cost but high-quality plastic surgery, is administered through injections and primarily functions by weakening, immobilizing, or paralyzing the target muscles.
Historically, Dr. Alan Scott first tapped the efficacy of Botox as a muscle relaxant for therapeutic purposes in the 1960s. The neurotoxin’s potential for cosmetic use was discovered in the 1980s by Dr. Jean Carruthers in the late 1980s. Today, Botox has more than 20 recognized uses and is licensed in more than 85 countries.
Medically, Botox helps treat conditions such as strabismus (misalignment of the eyes), bruxism (excessive teeth grinding and jaw clenching), blepharospasm (involuntary blinking, upper motor neuron syndrome, and chronic migraines, to name a few. In small doses, Botox can immobilize a muscle for a short length of time. The neurotoxin is also suitable for relieving pain that comes with temporomandibular joint disorders or TMD. When it comes to cosmetic purposes, Botox is widely used to reduce facial blemishes such as wrinkles and creases.
Patients who wish to see immediate cosmetic results without any downtime prefer Botox over surgical facelifts that typically require the patient to wear facial bandages and endure swelling and bruising for several days on end. In contrast, a Botox injection entails swelling that takes only about one or two days to subside. The effects of Botox normally last from four to six months.
Some people, however, can have an allergic reaction to Botox. In addition, those who have an ongoing infection in the area where Botox will be injected should not receive the medication because the toxin can spread to other areas and cause serious side effects.
For this reason, it pays to consult a board-certified dermatologist such as Dr. Sara Lea Salas of Baja MediSpa before receiving Botox in Mexico. Trust a qualified dermatologist to be able to recommend the appropriate non-surgical cosmetic procedures that can enhance your appearance with minimal discomfort and downtime.

So the sun’s up on the beach and the prospect of a tan excites you? Well, a sun-kissed skin may look great but not when you learn that long-term sun exposure can cause your skin to age prematurely. This may not sound new but perhaps science can persuade you to think twice before you lounge on the beach under the hot sun.
First, don’t take the wrong message: Sun exposure has its health benefits. One most of us are familiar with is Vitamin D, which is essential for bone, teeth health and immune system. As it’s said, however, too little or too much of anything can still be potentially dangerous. An article by the Reader’s Digest Best Health Blog, for example, shows the image of a man with photoaging (dermatoheliosis) caused by excessive UV exposure. The man was a truck driver for 28 years, whose half face was consistently exposed to the sun, showing evident chronic wrinkling compared to the other which was protected by the shade. His case earned attention as it shows the great difference sun exposure can do to the skin.
Wrinkles, discoloration and textural changes are just a few of the premature ageing effects of sun damage. The skin loses the ability to retain moisture and develops thicker outer layers as defense from excessive heat, leading to wrinkles. Over time, the skin loses its elasticity and becomes thinner, making it susceptible to tears, grazes and blisters. Over-activity of the melanocytes (tanning cells) triggered by sun exposure can result to brown freckles, white marks and lesions.
You can reduce sun damage through protective clothing, limited sun exposure, and by using broad-spectrum sunscreen. However, if your skin is already heavily-damaged by the sun why not try CO2 laser resurfacing? This type of treatment is an advanced method used by qualified dermatologists to remove dead skin cells on the skin’s surface for a renewed youthful glow.
The technology works by vaporizing the dead skin cells using concentrated beams of light. The tiny holes the beams bore on the skin stimulate the body’s natural renewal mechanism to work faster in replacing the dead skin cells during recovery. Tijuana CO2 laser resurfacing is available in full-service medical spas like Baja Medi Spa.
